Here's our cap situation over the years that Gay would be under contract (assuming just Thomas was sent back since Diop is an expiring anyway):Ģ012/2013: 51 Million (7 million under cap)Ģ013/2014: 23 Million (35 million under cap)Ģ014/2015: 17 Million (41 million under cap)Īnd by the way, according to the new CBA agreement teams must spend at least 85% of the cap in 2012/2013 and 90% for all following years.

At least with Gay you have a piece, combined with Kemba/Biz to be somewhat attractive.

Chances are, were not going to get a star in this draft, so that cap space would do us nothing over the next one to two years in free agency anyway. I just don't see the harm in using essentially 9 million more in cap space. It's not like he has 5 years left on his deal either. If he is going to be on the roster, and they don't think he is going to improve, then why not spend 9 million dollars more to get a 20 ppg YOUNG guy in Gay? Not to mention he also fills a need. Thomas is on the roster and providing little. I mean sure, you could amnesty and technically gain that extra space, but MJ would still have to pay the bills and I doubt that he is ever going to be interested in amnestying anyone. It's 9 million more each of the two seasons than what we would already have locked up. So Basically Gay costs this much more then a TT and Diop Combo per year. Here are Gay's Salaries for next 3 seasons:ĭiop and Tyrus were scheduled to make this much combined over next three seasons Al Jefferson, James Harden, or Josh Smith are just a few possibilities after next season when we will have a ton of cap space.Īlso with the 25th pick we can still grab a solid player to go with 31st or we can package them to maybe move up into one Houston picks or another team in that range. We look like a much more attractive free agent market. This allows us to keep the cap space gained by Maggettes contract after next season to get another good player to pair with Gay and young core. Yeah it sucks we lose the number 2 pick, but what are chances of us getting a star player to come to Charlotte? The inclusion of both Tyrus and Diop soften the blow of Gays contract to some degree. This is not the most ideal situation for us in my opinion, but if we are going to make a deal for Gay I would prefer this.Ĭharlotte trades: #2 pick, Tyrus Thomas, Gana Diop This would really help them gather some wins and help them reach the finals.I know we have the trading the number 2 pick thread, but with so many rumors swirling around about us being interested in this Gay deal I thought it should have its own thread so the ideas are more concentrated instead of spread out page to page in the other thread. Imagine how much stress it would take off Rose, Butler, and aging Gasol. The Bulls offense would improve a lot with Gay in the mix. The Kings know they won't win this season, so why not bring in some people to develop. I really think that this would be a great trade for both the Kings and the Bulls. And Kosta Kufos would be great down low for the Bulls as he is known for his solid defense. These guys would be great for the Kings to look through. The Bulls haven't really been able to put together Tony Snell, and I think the Kings would love to have him. And here is the trade.īulls trade: Tony Snell, Mike Dunleavy, Taj Gibson, E'Twaun Moore, and a 1st round draft pickĬ'mon, this is a great trade. And Rudy Gay really isn't on a big contract. The Bulls have not that many players on huge contracts. And the Bulls have to be smart about this. Now you are probably thinking, "Who will they trade for Rudy Gay?" Now this is the part where I tell you, The Sacramento Kings are pretty much giving players away. PF: Pau Gasol (starter), Nikola Mirotic (bench)Ĭ: Koakim Noah (starter), Cameron Bairstow (bench)

SF: Rudy Gay (starter), Doug McDermott (bench) SG: Jimmy Butler (starter), Kirk Hinrich (bench) PG: Derrick Rose (starter), Aaron Brooks (bench) If they had him, their offense would have so many options, something that they struggled with last year. To me Rudy would fit perfectly in this role and would help the Bulls be a championship team. Who would be better to fill that role than none other than Rudy Gay. Mike Dunleavy has been sidelined for 8-10 weeks with a back injury, and now the Chicago Bulls need a starting SF. So my assumption is that Rudy Gay would probably love to be traded to the best scenario where he can win, and in my mind, that place is Chicago. In fact, the only time Rudy Gay went to the playoffs, it was back in the 2011-2012 season and the Memphis Grizzlies lost in the first round. But Rudy has been on a losing team for a long time now.

And we all know that Carmelo still doesn't prefer to lose, he just doesn't mind it. Everybody hates losing, unless you are Carmelo Anthony, but he just likes money. Rudy Gay is an offensive beast on a team that can't win.
